Case Study Film 1 - As Tears Go By - Wong Kar Wai
This is the first part of Episode 2 of Jonathon Ross's documentary ASIAN INVASION.
This extract offers some historical context of the Hong Kong film industry and how different New Waves affected generic developments and stylistic features.
From watching this, you should be able to see how AS Tears Go By is both a commercial film that adopts some popular action codes and stylistic features explored by Hong Kong directors at the time but also plays with the idea of romance and dramatises the action with his anti-heros and complex, emotional characters who want to leave their urban environment but can't.
.
It's a really good documentary and you can find all the episodes on www.youtube.com JONATHON ROSS ASIAN INVASION DOCUMENTARY
